The Saturday Market
Every Saturday morning, Lena and her father go to the busy market in the town square.
Lena loves the market because it is full of colours, sounds, and good smells. There are tables with red apples, yellow lemons, and fresh bread. People talk and laugh, and a man plays the guitar near the fountain.
This Saturday, Lena's father gave her some money. "Today, you can buy the food for our dinner," he said. "Choose well!"
Lena felt very grown-up. First, she went to the fruit table and bought oranges. The woman there was kind and gave her one extra orange for free.
Then Lena looked for vegetables. She wanted to make a soup, so she bought carrots, potatoes, and onions. She tried to bargain with the seller, and he gave her a small discount. Her father laughed. "You are a clever shopper!" he said.
After that, they walked past a cheese table. The man let them taste a small piece. It was delicious, so they bought some for the weekend.
Near the end, Lena saw a stand with old books. She picked up a story about pirates. "Can I buy this too?" she asked. Her father smiled and said yes.
Before they went home, they sat on a bench and ate warm bread. The sun was bright, and the square was lively.
That evening, Lena made the soup with her father. It was the best soup she ever made, because she chose all the food herself.
"Can we go to the market again next week?" she asked. Her father nodded. "Of course," he said.
